The Senate Republican Majority understand that high fuel prices are hurting all hardworking New Yorkers. That is why they passed legislation to cap the sales tax on gasoline when the price reaches $2 per gallon.
Yet...
Liz Kruger, Democratic Senator from Manhattan said;
"lowering taxes in petroleum products statistically has been shown not to discourage use of petroleum products but, in many cases, actually encourage the use of petroleum products."
Voting against this commonsense tax relief, she said;
"every time we pass a bill that reduces taxes, we take revenue out of the budget."
She just doesn’t get it!
Senator Kevin Parker, Democratic Senator from Brooklyn said;
"I frankly don’t understand why we care whether somebody goes to a Mobil station in New York State as opposed to Pennsylvania, because frankly the amount of traffic that’s going to proceed over the border is not going to affect...business in any kind of significant way."
The Senate Democrats just don’t get it! New Yorkers want lower taxes.

The Senate Republican Majority passed a new law doubling the length of time level one convicted sex offenders must register on Megan’s Law and requiring all level two and level three sex offenders to register for life.
The law prevented over 3,500 level one and level two sex offenders from escaping Megan’s Law this year. Laura Ahearn, Executive Director for Parents for Megan’s Law, called this tough new law a " model for the rest of the country."
Yet...
The top Democrat on the Senate’s Children and Families Committee Velmanette Montgomery from Brooklyn said;
"the crimes for which an individual may be required to register as a level one sex offender are oftentimes very minimal offenses...It’s overkill, it’s how we deal with every issue...Let’s look beyond punishment for once. So I’m voting no."
Senate Democrats just don’t get it! New Yorkers don’t want dangerous sex offenders on our streets.

Understanding the enormous impact the New York Racing Association (NYRA) has on New York's economy, the Senate Majority passed legislation that provided assistance to NYRA protecting 40,000 jobs.
Yet...
NYC Senator John Sabini said "NYRA's past performance is dismal. They're a nag." and voted against the measure.
He just doesn't get it!

Referring to NYRA, NYC Senator Thomas Duane said "Let's get rid of it. Vote no." and voted against the measure.

The Senate Democrats just don't get it! New Yorkers need their jobs!

The Senate Republican Majority has a long record of keeping our streets safe. Understanding that the initiation of new gang members have been known to include damaging private property as well as the Rape or killing of random victims, the Senate republican Majority passed legislation that would make gang recruitment a felony punishable up to 7 years in jail.
Yet...
Manhattan Senator Eric Schneiderman, the 2nd Top Democrat in the Senate argues;
"And my concern is this...the person who is doing the recruiting actually is part of the agreement to commit crimes?""...there's no requirement that everyone in the organization even know that it's a criminal operation."
He just doesn't get it!
The Top Democrat on the Senate's Children and Family Committee Velmanette Montgomery from Brooklyn said;
"I have an obligation to represent the young people in my district specifically, I'm going to vote no on this legislation..."
She just doesn't get it!
